Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and staying cool! As many of you may know, this weekend is Juneteenth and BVB wants to celebrate this monumental holiday with you!
On June 19th, 1865, federal troops went to Galveston, Texas to free the remaining enslaved African Americans in the United States. This momentous holiday is such an important part of our history as it marks a day that is tremendously important to all African American people. Everyone should know about Juneteenth and further their understanding on why it is such an important part of many people’s lives and history, because it is a holiday that marks one of the biggest turning points in African American history. Everyone recognizes July 4th as independence day, however most people in the United States were not free. June 19th marks the day of true freedom for ALL Americans.
To help us celebrate Juneteenth, please come out and join BVB in the Juneteenth Parade! We, as well as so many other individuals, groups and businesses, will be riding and walking in the parade. The Parade will start at Kemp-Carver Elementary School and it will begin at 10 am and end around 11:30 am. After the parade, there will be a Celebration in the Park at Sadie Thomas Memorial Park from 12 pm until 3 pm. We hope to see you all there and Happy Juneteenth!!
